Hey I just got off the phone with a courthouse regarding what is needed for my business & I'm still confused. I want to get my name for my clothing line "registered" so that it's mine and I can use it. for ex. Strong n grounded (possibly incorporated) is my business name and I not only want to have clothing up under this name BUT for the clothing line it will be strong n grounded (clothing co).... What do I need so that I can start printing shirts, relabeling, selling, & gettin quotes from suppliers... I have heard Dba, tax Id, ein, business license and now it's all confusing. Please help!!!!!!
Also I have a business partner

You should probably contact a local accountant to help you get started. Most are reasonably priced and will help you file the paperwork and make sure you understand about yearly tax returns, as well as, collecting and reporting sales tax.

But generally, you will need to register your business and apply for a tax id number (EIN is the same thing, so you don't need both). If you are selling from a physical location, you will also need a resellers permit. A DBA is for a sole proprietorship. So if you have a partner, an LLC or Corp is probably the better way to go.

Registering your business name will only protect it within your state from others using the same business name. But if you want to protect the brand name or logo for use on t-shirts anywhere, you need to apply for a federal trademark registration. This can be done at United States Patent and Trademark Office.
