How are you going to go about building your site? From the question I can only assume you are not going to code it yourself. If you use a pre-built shop monthly fees are involved. If you buy a domain now, there is a 60 day wait period I believe before it can be transferred to another registrar.

But letting us no how you plan on building your site will help us answer your question.

Well, monthly fees don't HAVE to be involved at all. You can build a site on free platform such as Wordpress or Joomla, and then implement an ecommerce plugin on top of it, or you could go with something like magento, which is a free e-commerce website platform itself.

There's plenty of options that won't cost any more than hosting and a domain.
