Biggest order ever - 1000 to 2500

Hi guys,

I just got a huge order (for me) and maybe I should sub it out. Told I should expect an order for 2500 shirts, but I also want to quote for 1000, incase they bulk at the cost.

I've no idea what to charge on these quantities. Normally we start off at $12.50 for a 1 colour print on a gilden 6.1oz (we are in the caribbean and have high import taxes)

Time is fairly tight. I have to have them done within a week.

White t-shirts (m, l, XL)
simple 1 colour print front and 1 colour back
3 pantone colours, but only 2 colours on each shirt, 1 colour per side. (so divide the shirts into 3 piles and print a different colour for each pile on one screen. then repeat for the back print with the second screen)

It is just a script for the print - 2 very simple slogans front and back, So a very easy print.

You would only need to ship to Florida, which we could pay extra for.

What would you charge for the 1000 and 2500 quantities?
What T-shirt - doesn't have to be heavy
Manual or auto?
How long would it take you?

Thanks guys - really need to make a decision by the end of this weekend as to do it myself or sub it out to a company in the states

Thanks,

Richie

If I were you, I'd make the money myself, and keep it in house--if you have the time. (and got rid of that emulsion jell-o. ;))

ha ha! yeah, I have 1 last new pot to try!

I just figured the large print houses could probably print cheaper than I could (even though I have no overheads - apart from the mortgage and my cat's never-ending requirement for tuna), and have the shirts on their way to me within days!

Although I would love to take a photo of 2500 people wearing the shirts I printed!

For easy front and back print, would something like $5 a shirt for 1000 and $4 a shirt for 2500 sound on track?

Richie
I would be -

1000 - $5.55 inclusive
2500 - $4.90 inclusive

We'd do $4.29 delivered to FL. Includes Gildan 2000 6.1 white tee. Delivery 7 working days. 50% deposit with order, balance before shipping.

If you are in the Caribbean shipping the shirts to you and back to FL would be insane.....

You should be able to outsource and quote this at 4.25 to 4.75 and still have good money in it....
Do you know this client? Always check. Seen a number of scams out there. I was caught in one myself. Even put through the credit card and it worked. Be careful.

do it yourself!!! unless you have serious reason why not to print yourself. i see this as good opportunity how to learn. next time you will know what is like to print 2500 shirts. yes it sounds easy and trouble free to subcontract, but anyway even if you subcontract you are still responsible. if they will make a mistakes then it will be still your problem.

t shirts you can choose from gildan. they have full range. well having said that i dont know what is the budget. you can offer few options with different prices.

if you have a auto, then go for auto. but you can do easily with manual machine. i would say you would invest more time, but it would be made by hands. which many customers value more.

dont know about pricing.

its hard to say how long it would take. i guess it depends how many colours you will be printing. i think i could print 100-120 1 colour shirts per hour with manual machine.

give it a go .. and you will find all answers .. please let as know too .. :)

I almost got caught in a scam last month. I was going to run the card just like normal and something told me to call it in. I did and the card was good, but the contact person's name and the state I would have been shipping to didn't match. My card processor said not to take it.

He also brought something to my attn...I am small and he knew that from the activity on my account. With a purchase as large as that was going to be, he asked if I could stand for the amount in case it came back on me. I didn't understand at first, but in a nut shell...if this card was processed and approved, and the charges were disputed within the next year could I cover those charges until it was settled. I would not have been able to. He said to always ask yourself that when doing a big credit card transaction. Ask the customer if they can send a cashiers check. Just a thought. Good luck.

It's not a scam!

I know the guys who want the shirts. Thanks for the warnings though.

The customer is in the Caribbean with me, so the shirts, (whether blank, or printed) will be shipped once: from the US to the Caribbean!

Where in the Caribbean?
I think $5 and $4 is good--if you're getting a good two bucks or so after your material expenses are accounted for.

I should have thrown it out there--if we were closer (and actually had an opening in the schedule to print for you) contract on a gildan 5000 we'd be right in the 3.85 range on 1K, around 3.40 on the 2500--it would be a sub two day job at 2500, but we'd have to be much slower than we are right now to kick it out in five days with no rush. :)

It could also be a little different depending on size of print, box prep/ship requirements, and colors--metallics especially. This would be a ballpark of what we do for established customers local with no customs BS, etc.

Just talking out loud.....But I am thinking you can source these in one of the countries Gildan manufactures in for less money than shipping from Florida....Or maybe another brand from Mexico.....Priting in Mexico is 1/3 the cost in the US....
Thanks for the replies guys,

I put in 2500 for $4.90 a shirt inclusive, 2 sides, with full payment upfront, (since it is a large rush job). If I had more time, I may have gone lower

Let's see if they were serious!

Thanks for all your input - I'll let you know if they bite!
I still may sub it out if the timeframe tightens and they don't get back to me on monday

Maybe - but with the time frame being so tight, I'll stick to suppliers and printers I know and can trust to get it right first time.

Maybe something to consider for the future, though. Now where's my Spanish Rosetta Stone............ :)

I agree with this and congrats
