Don't be scared off by the idea of someone taking your sayings. There are LOTS of people (including myself) selling t-shirts with phrases (on CafePress and other places).
Although it is possible for someone to copy your work, it doesn't happen that often, and you can do things to help protect yourself. T-Shirts with sayings sell very well.
