Best way to sell your brand to out of state locations

Mr. Obvious says website, mailing out line sheets/catalogs, etc. but is there a downfall to doing it this way? Is it not as effective as a one-on-one meeting with a retail buyer? I know sales reps are an option but where do you find them and how much pay do they require? Another concern is how would I go about finding the 'right' places to send website link and line sheets too, ie., the ultimate customer/retail buyer.

BTW -I'm looking to sell in coastal/resort shops, dive shops, surf shops, gift shops, fishing marinas and the like. It would be impossible to spread myself out enough to cover all the territory these places can be found.

Sorry for too many questions at one time -I know that's a lot to answer to but thanks for any help in advance.

No problem, maybe I should start new threads with all my questions posted individually instead of so many all together. Still I feel like the guy walking down the street that everyone bumps into like you're invisible. Or like the last guy that gets picked to be on the team in a sport situ. lol...
Tom, do a search on this forum for, How to Hire a Salesman.

Best place to start is the Phone book. Start calling all those places on the Shore.

Thanks Paul -I did find a post on a thread with good info on finding sales reps. Guess I'll find out their pay rate upon contact.
7% to 15% on wholesale depending on how bad they want you...

Since I posted so many questions on this thread, I'll move on to the next. (thanks to the previous responders -Paul)

Is there a good/best/better way to pitch your product to retailers w/o a face to face appointment. And if so, what is the best way to make this happen?

Thanks - I think they will want me. I'm an established resort wear designer (if I may toot my horn..lol) Link -(toot-toot) Flickr: Brad Howland Graphic Design's Photostream

But I'm guessing that volume of sales might have something to do with the % sales reps want. Sales reps have sold the designs on the link I posted and made the company I used to work for many $$$ but I was never involved with that end of the business. So that's why I'm asking. Always a designer, but knowing nothing else about the biz and that's why I'm here now.

Regarding using your website, you can add your products in Gooogle Merchant account so that your products will get visibility in Google product search, I have seen people get a lot of visitors to their site by adding their product details in Google Merchant account, you can try that if possible.

Additionally, how about Google Adwords and Facebook Ads? These mediums can also let you reach people and you can target people on the basis of location they are residing in.

Let me know what you think.

Well so far that sounds like a great idea! Never even heard of most of what you mentioned but FIRST I have to get my web guy to build me a site (already have a domain name reserved) and I did just create a facebook business page but haven't really started to spread it out yet b/c I only have one design on it so far. New at starting a business but not new TO the business but not business minded either -gonna be a learning curve here for me. Will let you know how this works out though -thanks for the tips.

I have one design (I know, lame but it's a start) that would be suited to any coastal region. It's just one in a series I'm working on. I could name drop Jersey Shore on it and bing -it's for Jersey Shore ;) It can be seen on my facebook page here Island Fever Trading Co. | Facebook It's the Hammerhead Malt Liquor design.

I'm selling screen printed. I'm doing the design work and a buddy is doing the screen printing for me.
