Hello,
If I want to print an image in either gray scale or in shades of any color, what technique is best to get a soft (not plastisol like) result?
And do printers charge for it as 1 color, even though it has grades of this color?

PS for example, I want to print a black-and white photo on white shirt, or inverse photo on black (to have a discharge look and feel).

Different printers will charge for different things. Personally, I would charge it as a one color job for white on black and a two color for any other color on black.

Many times a gradient image printed through high mesh count will not feel too plastisol-y even when printed with that type of ink, but for a true soft hand feel discharge or water-based ink would be your best bet.

Dye Sublimation is also another option.
