I found a few threads relevant to this but none newer than 2008. I'm considering getting a heat press to do transfers with JPSS. However, my main business would be going to conventions, not running a shop out of a physical location. I know most people prefer a bigger press, but portability is more of a concern to me, especially since I may be limited to a single 6-8' table (maybe two) for a lot of places, even if I wanted to rent two spots.

Any recommendations on a portable press? I'm not expecting a 15 lb one but the lighter the better. Also, if I get a press that's 9" x 12", could I still press an 11" x 17" transfer in two steps or would that be a disaster?

I think that you would kick yourself if you bought a 9x12. My suggestion would be the Maxx 11x15. It's not the lightest but it will be very durable for the type of production that you need.

Anyone else have any suggestions? ~70 lbs is just heavy enough to make me Not Want To Lug It Around to conventions and fairs, etc. Anyone have a used 9 x 12 they want to sell off? Also, does anyone know the answer as to whether or not you can press a single transfer in two sections (slight overlap?) Even if I got a 16" x 16" press, if I use 13" x 19" transfers it won't do the whole thing (though I guess that is a bit big). I'll probably end up getting 11" x 17" transfers since the bigger ones would just be wasted material anyway.

Anyone have any opinions on the Hix Hobby Lite? I'm not planning on using it as my main heat press but since most of my business "plan" involves on-site custom printing at conventions, portability is more important than convenience. I would eventually get a 15" x 15" or larger for work at home/shop. What else could I use the Hobby Lite for? I've seen people mention mousepads and sleeve/pocket pressing, any other ideas?

I bought a 16x20 Sunie just for this purpose. I can carry it myself and get it in and out of the tournaments I work. It fits well on a 6 foot table with room for laying out, folding and bagging and a second table is all the better, but not necessary. Hope this helps.

I am not a fan of the hobby lite for commercial work. It is was it says, for a hobby, not for continued transfer application production.
