That model uses dye inks. As the other person mentioned you need pigment inks. Pigment inks give the best wash performance.

If you don't want to switch to a pigment printer you can get 3rd party pigment inks at a fraction of what Epsons inks cost.

I use Cobra inks.

I'm not certain pigment inks will work in a model using dye inks. The black in those XP models is pigment but colors are dye. I asked that question a while back about using pigment in a dye printer but no one seems to know. I doubt we'll be able to use carts other than what's with the printer from the factory. Probably have to have the carts refilled with pigment but I doubt that could be done without additional expense if at all.

Cobra sells pigment inks that can go in any Epson. Many that used the Epson 1400 6 color printer replaced the inks with Cobra Pigment inks before Epson had 4 color tabloid printers a few years back. Otherwise back then to get a tabloid pigment based printer you had to go to 8 colors.

For example CP-651.

The empty refillable carts (or CIS) don't care what inks go in them, even sub inks can go into a dye based or pigment based printer.

After checking Cobra inks, it seems they do not have pigment carts for my specific printer. Mostly stylus & WF models.
Ummm, Epson inks on XP models are either Claria 6 color, or 4 color Durabright +

The inks in models that has Claria inks are all the same inside the carts, same with Durabright inks, same across the board with all 4 color models.

Inks sold in bulk are not married to a specific single Epson printer, many printers use the same exact inks, so you find which your printer uses, 4 color Durabrite + or 6 color Claria, then order the appropriate bulk ink part # and in the volume amount you want.

Refillable carts or CIS then you have to make sure you have the correct carts or CIS which is compatible to your printer model.

If you look closely at the pigment bulks inks sold you will see there are really for the "family" of 4 color printers, 6 color printers or 8 color printers.

Unfortunately, I don't do enough printing to justify bulk ink purchases. As for the printer models, mine is a 4 color in 5 carts. 2 blacks, 1 pigment black, 1 dye black. Claria premium ink. Odd but true.
Checking it again I stand corrected, Claria Premium 4 color indeed is CMY dye and K pigment. Previously all Epson 4 colors were Durabrite and pigment. It used to be Claria was only 6 color dye.
