Best Heat Transfer Mask at cheapest price?

13627 Views 18 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  ladycage
hello,

I am looking for the best heat transfer masks. I am also looking to spend the least amount of money. I am currently using 3g dark opaque paper, but am open to try others. The masks I currently use do not easily pick up the design, so i am forced to lift the design off of the paper slightly so the mask picks it up. This is very annoying because I have to do this for every little piece of the design, making what should be a 5 second process into about a minute. I would really like something that picks up the design very easily, that is very cheap, and preferably hot peel.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

If I could find a simple explanation as to how it works, I might. I've read the description @ the Coastal link, but I'm still a little lost as to how it works. What is the "carrier"? Is that the Opaque paper it was printed on?
Care to explain?
The "carrier" that we mention in the product description is the backing sheet that the opaque transfer is on top of when you print your image onto it. Most opaque papers are two layers - a carrier sheet/backing sheet and the actual transfer paper.

Basically, the process is as follows: after printing your image and using a vinyl cutter to trim around the image, you would weed away the excess polymer background. Then, apply the mask to the top of the image that is left behind on the carrier sheet. Use a squeegee to make sure the heat transfer mask is fully adhered to the image, then peel up carefully. This can take a bit of squeegee-ing. Place the mask (with the image now attached to it) onto your garment and press. The mask is completely safe to use on a heat press.
Thanks for the reply. Can you link me to the squeegee you are talking about? I find your transfer masks very difficult to get the transfer paper off of the carrier sheet. I do like that they are hot peel though. thus the reason I made this thread

Some of the transfer papers won't work with our heat transfer mask (and would be nearly impossible to remove the image from the carrier), but we've listed the ones that do on mask product page. If you're using opaque transfer paper, the transfer mask will still be a cold peel - hot peeling may result in less durability.

I'll send you a PM with the link to our squeegees.

I just got a roll of this from Coastal for my 3g jet opaque and it is not lifting the print off the carrier, am I doing something wrong? I put it down and squeegeed that sucker to death but its not coming up.
Which mask are you using?

htm1-2005 it listed 3g

This product works great as a mask/transfer tape for the following opaque transfer papers:
3G Jet Opaque
Coastal Inkjet Opaque
Thanks - I just wanted to double check that you were using the correct mask. We suggest that after applying the mask, you squeegee the mask onto the weeded transfer for 3-5 minutes with a lot of force to make sure that you get it to adhere properly. Peel up the mask very slowly. If this still doesn't work, give our tech support a call and we can arrange for some testing.

Ok I just may have to do that because I squeegeed that thing to death
I ended up eyeballing the design, it took twice as long but nothing else I tried worked. 25 shirts later and my head hurts lol hopefully I can get better at this
I have used this mask successfully wit 3G Jet Opaque

I started to sort of pick it up a little with a blade so it would stick but it was just taking way too long, like I said I may be doing something wrong maybe the cutter is not going deep enough or something? I have a Cameo. I have an entire roll to play with so I will keep practicing. I was saying to myself man on the youtube videos this looks so easy lmao
If u use pigment ink on 3g opaque sheet its difficult to lift form carier sheet
I had the same experience

I'm experiencing the same thing.
Not necessarily looking for the cheapest but one that will just grab the transfer.
Would we need to look for something that is high tack?
