I recently bought a Speedball screen printing kit and I want to print some t-shirts to wear.

I made the stencil of the design I want with the photo emulsion method and that worked fine. My main problem is when I apply the ink with the screen, the ink coverage on the shirt is very poor and not at all acceptable. I suspect it may be due to my inking technique.

Can anybody recommend a good way to apply the ink? (with detailed instructions?) Has this problem happened to anybody before?

hey, it could be the squeegee, the amount of pressure, the garment you are printing on or most likely your squeegee angle. I would suggest you watch this little video to get a little more acquainted with the technique that you should adopt. It's got a lot of other basic stuff in there too but you can skip ahead to the printing part.. its pretty brief.

hope it helps.

do u have off contact,
With a Speedball kit it's doubtful.

with out that ur print will come out blurry or smudged.
This isn't necessarily true. I think a lot more printing is done on-contact than a lot of commercial printers realise; it's not particularly unusual when printing fabric lengths for example. It might be a waterbased vs. plastisol thing, I don't know.

You need to provide more information, what kind of ink, what is the fabric content? Dark or light material? Mesh count of screens?
