Hey all,

I've been reading through alot of the previous posts on this forum to try and get a grasp on the requirements for barcodes in Australia but most seem to be about what happens in the USA.

So i was wondering whats the go in Australia, is it expected that when supplying our t's to retailers we include barcodes on our hang tags or will most retailers add their own?

If so does anyone know of where the best place, preferably in Melbourne, is to grab barcodes?

You can purchase barcodes but I wouldn't go down that path unless specifically asked (most likely by a large company) in which case you will need to work out the cost and factor it in to the job.

Most POS systems allow for making barcodes and printing them. (So for example your customer may want you to add the barcodes which they provide for items. That way they can set up the codes in their system for the way they need them. They may or may not have a barcode for each size/colour but instead go by design etc. Of course you would need to know the format they have created the barcode with and also what their equipment requires (eg some scanners need an * in front of the numbers to tell it to "scan" and what sort of barcode it is, there are several different types)
