Hi everyone -
In an effort to consolidate the backings that I carry in my shop (and be more cost-effective!) - I'd like to know what people use as a general rule for backing. I am doing alot of moisture management polos (100% poly) and have had quite a few with high stitch counts (15k-20k). So, I'm looking for your backing solutions for the following:

Stitch counts 7k-10k
Knits/poly shirts/lightweight t-shirts:
Woven dress shirts/scrubs:

Stitch counts 10k-15k
Knits/poly shirts/lightweight t-shirts:
Woven dress shirts/scrubs:

Stitch counts over 15k
Knits/poly shirts/lightweight t-shirts:
Woven dress shirts/scrubs:

Also - is polymesh and weblon the same thing? Anyone have a preference as to vendors for their backing?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Thanks for the reply Jane. I went to Madeira website and reviewed the guidelines. After reading that and other info - I must confess I am an "over-backer!!" I tend to use more backing than necessary. At first it just started because of a few high stitch count designs on the moisture management shirts (22K stitches - so I used 2 heavy cut aways and 2 no show weblon sheets) and it turned out great. Now I find myself "layering" more than I think I should. I have been embroidering for over a year, and my quality is good - but I think my choice of backing could be better.

With that said - if you could stock only 1 cut away, 1 tear away and 1 polymesh/weblon in your shop -what would they be? Thanks again!

You can't go wrong with Madeira brand.
I use 2.5 ounce cutaway, 1.8 ounce tearaway and polymesh (I think it is all the same weight). I also keep sticky backing for using with Fast Frames.
