Has anyone ever done jacket backs (all lettering) on a track jacket with tear away stabilizer? People seem to hate the look of a large piece of cutaway inside their jacket, but I'm afraid that the lettering will pucker or just look bad with tearaway. Design size is about 9" x 10" .Thanks in advance!

Hi Vicki, Maybe try a heavy weight backing, Gunold do the 1980 backing, I would use 2 pieces.

Test it on some similar material before you do the job.

Re the cut away backing, I always say to my customers "why jeopardize the quality of the embroidery on the outside for what it looks like inside that no one sees?."

If it's twill lettering it should be fine with a tear-away backing

If the letters are embroidered then cut away.

Tear-away backing is risky as it doesn't provide enough support. The risk is getting a 'birds nest' and then the jacket getting caught in the rotary hook.
Nasty!
