Back to shirts. Which size?

Ok, I'll try to make a list to make it easier...

1. Airbrush Artist
2. Used Transfers as well (even mixed media with AB'ng)
3. Used Geckos, CheapBay's, and a Maxx.
4. Used 15"s and 16x20.
5. Life turned upside down, lost all my gear. Getting built back up.
6. Lost my NICE Maxx press... 16x20.

Now, I have a cheap press I bought used, like $60. Doesn't get over 280* and has cold spots. Need a new press. When I airbrush shirts, I get a LOT of orders of 2x-4x. Even with a 16x20, I always end up having to repress to get full coverage. I can't help but to think, spending the extra cash on a 16x20 when I'm gonna have to move it, and press again is wasted money.

Now, I have spent COUNTLESS HOURS in the past week looking at all the possible transfers I may be using... 11x15 seem MASSIVE on most shirts. I have no real trouble centering my garmets up since I grab centers, top and bottom and press to crease the shirt so I have a tapeless centerline to go off of.

Do you guys think I should still go with a 16x20? I do miss my Maxx, but dam, if I'm gonna have to repress anyways, why spend the extra cash? that's what I'm thinking.

Also, I can't decide from Sunie's Seiki presses (says 36% off 15x15 $209 shipped and $319 for 16x20 shipped) or a draw press from Transpro. Any thoughts?

haha! good one!

how large is your largest (4xl) design?

they do have a 16x24 as well, i think it was only $20 more
but that is a big press

i'm partial to swing-aways, so keep that in mind (if budget/space allows)

i only have a 15x15 and i can do 2xl, but it is on the diagonal
sqrt of (15"^2 + 15"^2) = 21.2" (but you do lose height on the diagonal,
so depending on your design it might work on the 16x20 (diagonal = 25.6")

proworled is a regular here, pm him and maybe he can point you in the right direction

lol. :)

Well, my biggest design... I haven't created yet, lol but a lot of designs are "spray to fit". However, I have had a vision of doing a line of shirts that has several designs with splashes, drips etc. all over the front and even backs on some. So if I go that route, for sure, even a 16x24 won't cover it all. However, if I got a 16x20, perhaps if I laid the shirt sideways and pressed the top, then the bottom I could do it in two hits, not 3 or 4.

I made my decision last night, pulled cash from safe, went to bank, deposited... came home to make online purchase.. "Transaction failed. Card denied" ... "OH COME TF ON!!!" But I at least laugh at it this morning.

Yeah, in fact, Proworlded is pretty much the sole reason I decided to go with the select 16x20 last night. I may still do it, but partner acts like she'd rather do the seiki. Reason being, as much as Proworlded is on here practically begging people to contact them to fix their problems, there's still many reviews of their service being garbage. So IDK. Leery either way.

i've read the exact opposite,
sunies are ok for the money but don't expect any service after purchase

i bought used, so unfortunately i cant help you with where you should purchase from

the reason i mentioned proworld was because of ed, but also because i have checked out the reviews
verified purchases, because anything else is suspect in my book

double pressing does not take that much more time,
so i would not worry about that too much

its the prep work just to get ready to press that takes the time,
press i only 30 secs max

have you checked for used in your area?

would be interested in your process, if you would care to share (pm me)

Yeah, I had been keeping close eye on craigslist ads and facebook's marketplace etc. My plan was to go ahead and switch money over to different account so I could use a debit card that was valid and still purchase the Transpro. However as I checked messages before leaving the office here to go work on the studio (still building) I decided to check marketplace on FB again.

Passing all the same ol' ebay'd presses I came across a Maxx 16x20 for $1000, got to $850 but 6 hour trip to get it. Then there she was, a GK 14x16 swing away for $200. I looked again and said "Where'd you come from?" ... there she was, said it was posted 5 days ago.. which I'd been on here every day for two weeks, never saw it. Checked location, 1.25 hours away in Memphis!! "$200, can't be real, that's a $1,300 press". Sure nuff, guy said "Buddy of mine owed me money, he tows trucks and in a truck he hauled off had this in it. Was never picked up. So he gave it to me." I Got it for $180. At initial test it fired up to 300*, but needing to go soon I shut it down after making sure timer worked and paid the man.

It's a little banged up, but it's a press, they can take a beating. Will clean it up and fully test it tomorrow.

That is a great deal...you can sell them all day for $500 in bad shape.
If it is really "used" you may need to replace the handle/clamp to bring it up to close to new condition. I believe it runs $80 and takes less then 10 minutes to replace. Also the bottom pad is often in need of replacement. Get yourself some "Ez-off hot iron cleaner" and clean your heating element (runs $6-$7, and will last you 100's of cleanings).

Good luck and happy holidays!

I'll try to get pics later. But the silicone pad actually looks in decent shape, but is peeling up from platen. I plan to use covers for both the bottom and top, but I will still clean the hot iron. It IS beat up... there's a fork on the back side of the hot plate that when you lift it, it's supposed to keep it lined up as it's being raised. It's not only squeezed together so it won't ride upon the bar, but it's also pulled to the side. I doubt it's a problem. The arm action feels fine I think. Using it will be the real test.

The main thing is, this sum***** is DIIIIIRRRTTYYY!! Looks like it's had its life hanging around a nasty mechanics shop, you know those kind in the back alley where they never cleaned up the shop since opening, not a spec on the wall is seen due to all the grease and dirt collected. Yeah, it needs a really good cleaning, with goop, goof off, citrus clean and uranium.
