From the article:

"Internet sales of clothing have passed the £1bn-a-year mark, despite customers not being able to try things on before they buy.

Mintel reported a five-fold rise in sales of clothing and footwear online since 2001 and a 44 per cent surge to £1.4bn last year."


I think £1.4bn would be about $2.7bn US. But don't quote me on that. ;)

I wonder how much of that is high street shopping changing into internet sales, and how much is traditional catalogue shopping going on-line.... if you look at the collapse in paper catalogue shopping, there is a direct correlation to those same shoppers going on-line (eg Freeman's mail catalogues have collapsed, www.freemans.com has exploded).
