I haven't seen it mentioned, but one of the things I found most important is the graphic's resolution.
I've printed PSD, PDF, GIF, JPG and all come out OK as long as they are 300 dpi at a minimum. It also works better if the artwork is created in the same size it is going to be printed at. The size doesn't matter with vector artwork because it resizes without loss of resolution.
