Hey,

I was just wondering if there is anything similar to the SGIA here in the UK? Im kinda new to all this and would love to see some of the printing techniques and whats new up close. Any info would be great, thanks!

I found this link on google but having no joy with finding anything in the UK: 2010 SGIA Expo - What happens at the Expo is only the Beginning

Hi,

The nearest thing we have in the UK is Printwear & Promotion. This is held at the NEC end of February / beginning of March every year.

It's not a massive show but most of the UK suppliers will have a stand.

If you need any help with dtg techniques feel free to contact me.

The expos are dying, every year they get smaller and less relevant.
If you look at the cost of exhibiting, even on a very small scale, plus the lost days in the office and the design, setting up and clearing, it's just not effective.
For myself, generating large numbers of 'leads' from a show is harder to deal with than a steady stream from Google.
Even the big guys regard it as something that they feel expected to do rather than a valuable exercise.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

@Inkster_UK: I've had a quick look at the Printwear & Promotion site and I will definitely be trying to go there next year. I'm gonna be honest and say I don't really know too much about DTG printing but I'll look into it and I might well take up your offer of help, thanks :)

@rockersuk: Thank for the link, I'll have a look now!

@PositiveDave: Its a shame but I can see what you mean about the expos not being worth it compared to other option like Google. I was just wondering if there were other options to see how screen printing, transfers and DTG work in real life as thats how I feel I learn best, when I see it working in person. Hope this makes sense.. thanks for the reply as well :)

you can always visit suppliers that have working showrooms in the UK that way you get to see the equipment working and get valuable time with the expertsto answer all of your questions , in my experince of 15 yrs of doing shows both printwear and SGIA in the states , its hard to give new customers the time they need at a busy trade show .

Thanks for the reply. That something I would love to do as I am currently in the market for a decent heatpress (£350-450) but would also like to learn more about screen printing as this is something I also want to learn.

@Inkster UK: Thank again, I had a look on your site but found no mention of any classes. I'll more than likely PM you when I get the chance cause I would love to see a print demo(could be a trip though as I live in Herts - long way from Chesterfield lol).
