Anyone using Epson P800 for film printing

4232 Views 12 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  gotshirtz002
Hi guys,

I'm new at screen printing so bare with me.

I have an Epson P800 for positive film printing with Accurip SE but my positives are not printing 100% black.

Anyone who has succesfully printed with this Epson printer?

I do not have that particular printer but it should print plenty dark.

Basically to get it to print dark, you need to change all of your print settings to lay down more ink, AKA set paper to extra glossy photo paper and indicate that you are printing a photo not text.

Also make sure you are printing on waterproof film, 5 mil preferably.

It should be a very simple fix with a little experimentation.
I will try changing the settings, and also I'll check if my positives are waterproof or not, not sure of this.

Thanks!
Have you run the print density test in AccuRIP?

Not sure how good this video is, but it has the right name, at least:

AccuRIP acts as the print driver, and should be selected as the printer when printing, so selecting Photo Paper, and the like, does not even enter into the picture as an option. At least in the version I have :)

Have you set AccuRIP up correctly for what ink is actually in your printer? You need to specify whether your printer has black ink in every slot or the regular assortment of colors.

I get best results with 1440 x 1440 dpi and a drop weight of 7. Lower dpi tends to result in faint Hrz lines, even with a doubling of the drop weight. That is an older version of AccuRIP and an Epson R1900, so YMMV.
When you select your printer, are you selecting the P800 or printing to AccuRIP?

When printing positives, select AccuRIP as the print destination.

The version of Accurip for the Epson P800 printer is different as it doesn't allow you to control the drop weight only the resolution.

Will try changing film as well.

THanks

The system is designed to work out of the box and includes everything you need. Having used a 4880 in the past where user mods were required (which inadvertently voided any warranties), the P800 is designed to be a films printer while maintaining the ability to to print wide format photos. The EPSON photo black ink is excellent.

Is the system new or used?
Has it ever printed opaque?

I would lean toward user error and start all over before switching up inks etc. If you mix incompatible inks and clog the printhead, you may as well throw the thing away.

When you say "printing to AcciRIP and selecting P800", is this what you mean?
Note: I print from Illustrator

This is the printer destination when I am simply printing to the printer outside of AccuRIP

Yes that's exactly the same as I am also printing from Illustrator.

Okay. I just want to be clear: if you are printing from the second pic I posted (which you quoted) then that may be your problem. Your printer destination needs to be AccuRIP
.
