I'm looking at replacing my Epson SP2200 for film output (13 years old and starting to show it's age). I use T-RIP and Windows 10. I've read the Epson 1430 is widely used but hard to find these days. T-RIP also works on the Epson P400 so I wanted to see if any screen printers on this forum are using it, or have used it, for film output and whether or not they would recommend. My SP2200 is pigment based (like the P400) and it has performed awesome over these 13 years. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Epson Artisan 1430
For film separations and then create film positives for screen printing

I got an Epson 1430 refurb just a couple of weeks ago. They come up from time to time but go really quick. While you’re looking/waiting, you should keep an eye on their refurb section. I missed a couple times before finally scoring one!

Yup, I bought my R1900 when they reached end of model and Epson was closing them out on their Closeout/Refurb page. Great deal.

As to the SP2200. I have one of those! I used it for photos. Tiny dinky ink carts, though.

Have used a few epson 1430's for over 5 years, recently was shocked by the price tripling and decided to try an epson p400.

So far not so good.
Turns out you can only use the matte black cartridge and unfortunately there are no all black systems for this printer.
I could get past the weekly changing of the matte black ink but the issue is no matter what film I use the black easily scrapes off.
So basically the film printed with this matte black is only usable for one or two time times tops before there are too many scratches to fill in before burning.
I would not recommend this printer.
Pay the new outrageous price for the Epson 1430 and have a printer that'll last you 1-2 years.

Hoping someone makes a better printer soon!
