the printer i am currently using has trouble converting my PS files to art for screen printing. in hopes of making things run much smoother with him, i wanted to get ahold of a copy of corel draw 11 for mac.

i have looked at a few online places (ebay, amazon etc) and haven't found one yet.

anyone here have a copy that they might be willing to let go of? or have an idea where i might find a copy? i think i can find an illegal copy pretty easy, but i was really just hoping to pick one up second hand or something.

can anyone help?

thanks.

Wondering what the issue the printer is having, it's possible you could save your files in a different way so the printer has no issues opening your files. What are the file types/formats you're sending him and what is he requesting from you?

one of those ebay listings might work. thanks. i searched ebay, but i must have searched corel draw insted of coreldraw.

i didn't see corel draw 11 on the corel site.

well, from what i can understand, he "redraws" my files. i am not sure what exactly this means to him. but he explained to me that sometimes when he auto traces, things don't line up just right so he has to do a lot of touch up work.

i use PS and send to him in JPG format.

when he converts, he sometimes loses part of the image. so i have to proof things really close. one tshirt i did i did not proof well enough (who expects to have a whole part of the image missing!??!) so my final product was missing the shadow on part of the image. : (

i don't think this should be a problem, but it is. so instead of fighting it, i thought creating in CD would make things easier. doesn't make sense to me, but nothing i can do about it. his final products are good and his prices are great!

i have had a problem getting the exact ink colors i expect, though. any recommendations/solutions for that? can't rely on computer screen colors as no two computer screens are just the same.

I'm guessing he's converting everything to vector because he's using automated software for his seps or was only trained for this one method.
I send .ai files to printers all the time that are actually bitmap separations layered into illustrator. You could handle this if you wanted to, it will takes some time to learn how to do it tho.

regarding color matching, the standard is to use a physical Pantone book to verify the colors you're seeing on screen and match to a Pantone color (i recommend getting the Pantone coated/uncoated guide together).

the next time i have a job, i may go over and sit with him while he works on it so i can see why he is having a problem. to me it just doesn't make sense.

i don't know if he is using a automated program for the seps. as it is i send him the separations (i think due to my using PS and his using CD).

but, again, if my using corel draw will solve the problem, then i can do that.

sometimes things don't make sense and it is just easier to do it the way people ask than it is to try to convince them that your way is *right* as well.

pantone book ... where would i get that?

not that his or your way is *right* but that their maybe another way... a better, more efficient way! :D

i'm just trying to save you from spending money if it's not needed (do you already have Adobe Illustrator?) but you are correct, sometimes it's not worth the time and it's easier just to 'get it done'.

Allot of art supply stores carry the Pantone books (there's many different books, make sure you get the right one for your needs). Screen print supply shops also often carry Pantone books for sale.

i do not have illustrator, just photoshop.

it will be worth the $$ to have some peace of mind.

i understand my being responsible for proofing, but having whole parts of my design missing is not very reasonable. : /
