I am going to out on a limb here and say that what ever you use that does the job (and not half a$$ed either) and doesn't damage your printer sounds like a viable option to me.
Any printer no matter what brand should be serviced according to manufacture's specs however. Just smart thinking.
Sorry, if you are referring to the tube wash procedure at the end of a print day you should use the Epson special cleaning solution that comes with the tube wash kit. It's cheap enough at under $8 a month to use and was specially developed for that purpose.
