As part of the latest in a long saga of problems with this damn machine....

We just took it in for a full service and it has had a new print head, new dampers and new capping station and pump assembly fitted (at great expense!).

It was working absolutely fine in the workshop and printed white and black tees perfectly.

Now we have got it home but once we turn it on, the print head scans slowly across and back 3 times, finally stopping on the 'far' side (not the capping station) and all ink lights + error eject light flash rapidly.

I know it's not the waste ink counter and we've cleaned the encoder strip but still not working. Also, when running the T-Jet Adjustment Utility, the only error message I get is 'Fatal Error'... not the most reassuring words.

I'm not sure how what could have gone wrong between it working at the workshop and driving it home.

There is a bit of a squeaking noise when the print head passes over the capping station area, not sure if this is related or just because it has a new rubber bit (don't know the proper name!) fitted.

Any suggestions on how to fix would be much appreciated. It needs to be sorted soon as I can't even do any head cleans with it like this and I risk the print head clogging up.

Thanks,

Lawrence

Make sure that the chain on your bulk ink system is allowing the carriage to travel all the way to the left of the printer. The carriage needs to read the encoder strip down to a certain distance. If it does not it will try again and eventually error out like your printer did. One way to easily rule out the bulk ink system being an issue is to detach it from the carriage and put in your cleaning cartridges instead then start up your printer. If it starts up fine with out the bulk system attached then you know it's the issue. Adjust the placement of the bracket that holds the chain so it allows the carriage to travel further down.

lazographics: Thanks for the suggestion! I don't have cleaning cartridges and my bulk system doesn't really detach from the printer easily, but I just removed a screw holding down a plastic bit which just holds the ink lines together near the print head, this allowed more slack on the ink lines and lo and behold, it works!

Glad you got it working. You may want to invest in some refillable cleaning cartridges. They are pretty important. If your printer is going to sit for more then a day then it's best to flush out the print head of any ink with the cleaning cartridges and let it sit with cleaning solution rather then ink. I have become pretty strict with my printer. I won't let it sit with ink for more then a few hours. It's a simple process to swap cartridges and increases the life of your obsolete print head
