as far as selling to retail stores is not what i am interested in. i would like to sell them on my own site and for shows and stuff TO START later i would only place my shirts to resale in select stores that match my expectations, since my clothing brand is what you would call "underground" clothing. i was wondering if i needed a license to sell online? or a specific type of license through the state? and i should form an LLC correct? i am rather new to this type of business and just would like a better understanding of how it all works and i wanna do it right.

Generally, you need to register your business with the state. Then you can apply for a federal tax ID number. Depending on your state and the nature of the business, you may also need a resellers permit. Try Googling "starting a business in (your state)" and you should find plenty of resources with checklists and links to all the paperwork you need to submit.
