A vinyl that be applied with an iron?

Is there a vinyl transfer that be applied with an iron? Elena has a Silhouette CAMEO 3 coming in (great price from Amazon) and is excited to get started. A heat press is a few paychecks away, well, maybe more than a few, she wants to get a good one. I suppose they could all be applied with an iron but wouldn't adhere very well.

Thanks,

Gary. As an example here are the instructions for Siser Easyweed.
Siser EasyWeed Vinyl
Home Iron Application Instructions

100% cotton, Poly/cotton blends, 100% polyester
Set iron dial between Cotton and Linen
Cover design with Kraft paper or non-stick cover sheet
Place on flat, hard surface (ironing board not recommended)
Press iron with medium/firm pressure (do not slide iron)
Press each section of design for 10-15 seconds
If areas of design lift after application, replace cover sheet and re-press for 5-10 seconds
Peel carrier hot or cold
Wait 24 hours before first wash.

here is a starter press (fairly reasonable) with good reviews

i think if you are not getting into laser transfers this one should suffice,
as a swing-away will give you a better pressure distribution
Thanks, Ed. I just placed a small order, enough to get her started. I have some more questions but will start a new thread. gary

That's a whole lot cheaper than what she's been looking at. I know she eventually wants to get into ink jet printed transfers and mugs but probably not laser. Maybe having some plastisol transfers made, too. Thanks for pointing that one out, I'll bring it to her attention.

Don’t do it with an iron. You can’t control the tempeture
You can get a cheap heat press off EBay that will suffise for small jobs.

I agree. A hand iron is going to tease you to think it will work, but leave you frustrated.

You also get no way to ensure you have applied the same heat and same pressure with the same amount of time.

Totally agree with the idea of starting with a cheap heat press from ebay or Amazon over using an iron, for vinyl there is no issue, the cheap ones are fine, its only Dye sublimation where the quality of those cheap presses can be a bit of a struggle, at least use one to start and upgrade when you have the cash - our first cheap press cost just under £200 (7 or 8 years ago) long gone now of course, our best press a Geo Knight but it cost around £1200 (bought 5 years ago and still going strong)
I also agree that a heat press would be better but it's not up to me. I just gather information (I don't know much but I'm pretty good at knowing the questions that need to be asked).

if using an iron, i would seriously consider one of the new turbo vinyls
thermoflex/joto, sef or chemica makes them

they have a different adhesive that is ready in 5-7 seconds on a press,
hand iron may require a bit more time
do some trials and wash/dry cycles before ever selling (at least twelve cycles)
Thanks for that tip, I'll check those out. It's going to be awhile before she's ready to sell anything.

That would be the best way to heat press at home. But you need to make sure that the temperature of an iron up to the proper level.
That Transpro press works great! I still have mine after 6 yrs. I started with that press and the first silhouette cameo (which I also still use).

Maybe you can make friends with a local shop and see if they'll let you come in and use their press?
