9 colors vs 15

Thinking of getting a single head machines for a home business. I want commercial grade machine. I like the Barudan. Wondering what your thoughts are here regarding the 9 needle and the 15 needle Barudan (wondering what the average number of colors in most embroidery jobs are and other than the convenience of having more colors already threaded on the machine, which is something, but just wondering barman Elite XL or the XL Pro) Thanks in advance for your wisdom and experience.

Nine needles will be sufficient for most jobs but if you have the extra money 15 is better. The number of colors per design will depending somewhat on the type of work you do. We produce mostly business logos which generally have 1-3 colors per design with an occasional extra needle used for 60 wt thread with a 65/9 needle. You'll probably want to keep white and black cones on the rack and possibly red or other colors. Having extra needles is nice when you're having problems with a needle. It also helps to prep thread for the next job while running a job.
First off a single head will get you into the biz but you can't make any money with it

If you go with the 15 needle you can put sharps on 7 and ball points on 8 and not have to swap needles every time you have a different garment.

Also, if you go with the compact machine you may find yourself fighting with large garments like jacket backs.

Don't buy a package. You will get a bunch of stuff you will never use.

Finally, get the mighty hoops for your machine. You will see a big difference in productivity with them.

That's a great point. I've ben thinking that with am single head it would be a pain changing needles. You opened my eyes a bit there and I appreciate it. What kind of machinery do you have and are you happy with it?

Great advice thanks a lot. Still trying to figure out what i'm doing. I'm in the heavy research phase. Spending hard earned cash makes you that way i guess...

We have a 1501C and a 1504 both from SWF. The compact I don't think is as good a quality as the 4 head but I am pretty happy with both. If you go with a single head, get the full size, not the compact.
