Hi, just got a refurbished epson 4800 for film out, got few queries if someone could help me setting up this printer for film out.
1. I'm unable to find the blackmax ink cartridges in India, and the price to import them from US is too high. 625usd + fedex 257usd:( my question is can I swap with any other cartridge instead of Blackmax.
2. Do I have to use all black for all the slots of color banks (hope understand what I mean)
3. If blackmax or alternate ink cartridge available in India can you refer me the product and the link.

I don't have a RIP program but use Quickseps for photoshop and SimpleSeps Smart RIP for CorelDraw for my halftones.

I bought my bulk cartridges on alibaba, very cheap, no issue. then use dye water based black ink that I buy per liter.
Don't forget to get a chip resetter.


With a RIP you could assign which slot is black or not. (not obliged to have all black slot)

Some use 4 slot for film output, the other 4 for sublimation printing.

With decent knowledge and 1 black slot, you can successfully output film.

With many black slot and a RIP, it will print faster and ease the process.

For black I use inktec dye water based ink, I think it is easy to find in your area.

Thank you, one last question, are you saying that I have to own a RIP Software to choose a single black option.

In this case, no need for a rip, you just use the printer driver.

I print without rip for 2 years, then bought a RIP.
There is a noticable difference in quality and speed :)
