4 Color Waterbased Print on a Beach Towel

743 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  JaeAmera
Thought I would post a print that I was pretty happy about. This is a 30 X 60 inch beach towel. Printed 4 colors with custom made water based inks. It was printed on an 8 color Mitex belt printer with metal rod squeegees. 156 mesh count and art output at 25 LPI. This was just a test print.

That's amazing.

Happen to have a pic of your belt printer? Would love to see it.

This is the belt I used to print that job. It is a Mitex 125. It is interesting because it doesn't use rubber squeegees, it uses magnets under the belt to roll a metal rod across the screen. Different diameter rods change how much ink is laid down. They are very effective machines for large production runs.

Never heard of one until now. Very very cool.
Awesome job! That looks great. I love looking at large format imaging equipment. The tech behind how it functions and performs baffles me with delight. I could watch that baby image stuff all day :)

From a registration standpoint, How do you keep the towel in place on the belt? Adhesive?

Would love to see a short video of the printer in action if you ever get a chance.

Yes, the belt is coated with a waterbased adhesive to keep the towel in place while printing. There is also a belt washer that has brushes and squeegees that can clean the belt as it's printing. Most of the time I just clean the belt after an hour or so, to get the lint off and have a fresh surface to print on.

This is an older video of the machine printing.
