All,
What do you do for this type of request for pricing? If each separate hooping is below your minimum charge do you charge 3 minimums or do they get a price break? For example, if you minimum charge is $7.00 for a name drop and they want it in 3 different places on a shirt do they get charged $21?
Thanks,
Dave

I have to ask, how many pieces are you talking about? If it a single item that the customer bought and it has 3 minimum stitch counts I would charge $24, as long as all the designs were already set up or it was simple lettering. Now, if this is a large order I would I usually give them a break on the second & third hooping but I'm going to make sure that I'm still making my money

I agree with Jane. Charge those three minimums. It seems to be to be a lot like UPS- There is a base charge just to carry anything, and it doesn't matter how light or small it is, just to cover the necessary work that must be done for a package to go through the system. That's how it is with hooping. Your hooping time remains the same whether you are stitching a monogram or a massive design. You need to charge just to put the garment in the hoop.

we normally discount 2nd and 3rd locations on the same garment but our pricing structure is different than most other emb places. we use a flat rate pricing based on the size of the emb and the garment it is going on, not the stitch count or other traditional factors.

We found that our customers were really ticked at being charged for setup, color change, and other things. They really hated being charged a fee if they had several color garments and needed a color change on one or more elements for the different color garments. They felt that they were taken advantage of. Our last account that we picked up called our pricing 'just or fair'. I guess she felt she got ripped off before.

We charge a flat rate for lettering up to 4 inches (what fits in the hoop) and a higher rate for logos up to 4 inches. We have a flat rate for lettering up to 8 inches square and a starting flat rate for full back or front designs.

We also have a flat rate for caps including the cap no matter what we put on it.

We do all our own digitizing having only to send out 3 items in the last 6 years.

We do not charge a separate fee for digitizing, color changes, or things like that. We have picked up one national account and 5 schools with our pricing structure just in the last few months.

Our hourly rate range is wide though with this structure, anywhere from $10/hr up to $300/hr depending on what we are doing.

I shopped a local franchise embroidery place and got a price on 6 polos that I supplied with just my name on it. $18 for 'set up' and $8 each for the embroidery. What setup is there? Type in 5 letters. That is how our customers feel.

We also guarantee everything we do. If they don't like it we will fix it or buy it back.

We have flat rates for our digitizing, but we do have a stitch-count based embroidery charge. We also guarantee all of our garments and have in-house EVERYTHING as far as design, digitizing, etc. We find that in the digitizing we make what we need to overall.
