I know this has been discussed before...

I have a customer that wants 250 yard sign's , I have no experience with this type of printing but would like to do this for my long time customer.

a few questions-

1. what type of ink? i see that nazdar has a ink called corogloss. will this do?

2. I use saati PC direct emulsion....will this type of emulsion work or do I need to get a waterbased emulsion?

3. it is a 2 color print...a solid yellow with black type over the yellow. should I knockout the type from the yellow or over print the black type ?

4. where can I get the ink and retarder needed?

5. how much would be a fair price for this...the customer will supply the blank signs.

Thank You for any and all suggestions

Do you have a vacuum platen? You'll need one. The ink from what I understand really smells so you need to be able to exhaust the fumes from it. I think it would be easier to have someone do it who knows what they're doing.

my business didnt grow to where it is today by letting others do things for me.....I want to take this challenge on and learn how to do it.....I have printed 2 color stickers with waterbased inks ...this was my logo on stickers to see if I could do it...I didnt use a vacumm pallete...I designed a little jig to make sure I have each sticker in the same place.

thanks for the reply

The corogloss ink will work.
You'll probably need to use a dual cure emulsion
Nazdar source one has the ink and the reducer Nazdar SourceOne – Screen & Digital Printing Inks, Equipment, Media & Supplies (check the user guides on their site for useful info on the ink)
A 230 mesh screen works well, the ink is pretty thin out of the can (compared to plastisol)
I've done them in the past and just used an oversized shirt board with a VERY light coat of glue. Even though the ink air dries pretty quick, I'd print the yellow first and just overprint the black because you'll have to print the yellow, take it off the press and let it dry, then put back on the press for the black. Even better is to see if you can just do black on yellow corroplastic.
I haven't done any in a while, but I'm guessing off the top of my head maybe a couple bucks each? it's hard to compete with some of these sign places online that do them for a buck a piece.

Nazdar corogloss is made specifically for printing on coroplast....It is some potent stuff as it is solvent based. Iben is right...this stuff SMELLS! Better open a bay door or something.

2. I use saati PC direct emulsion....will this type of emulsion work or do I need to get a waterbased emulsion?
I use Kiwocol Poly-Plus S dual cure emulsion when I work with this stuff on a 195 or 230 mesh count screen.

You should be ok overprinting black onto yellow, but I wouldn't try the other way around.

4. where can I get the ink and retarder needed?
I buy mine from Graphic Solutions Group, but you should be able to google Nazdar 7900 Corogloss Ink and find tons of hits. You will probably also need some screen opener as it doesn't take long for this stuff to dry in the screen and probably some retarder thinner (Nazdar 9050, I think).. As far as clean up I use Nazdar Universal Screen Wash.
A little hint....If you start getting "cobwebs", your ink is too thick!

5. how much would be a fair price for this...the customer will supply the blank signs.
You could probably get away with charging anywhere from $400-550 for this.

On a run this large, you can probably print the yellow on one side. By the time you finish with one side, the first signs you printed would probably be dry enough to lay the yellow on the back side. And by the time you laid that, you could probably go back and start laying your black. They need a good solid hour before you can print on them again. I usually put a fan on mine to speed up the drying process.

We use Polymeric Imaging UV inks, very little smell, prints through standard dual cure we use on plastisol, cures in 6 seconds through the UV dryer. Best of all, it doesn't dry in the screen for DAYS. Great stuff. I think it prices around $ 170/gallon but don't quote me on that.
