Hi all,

I really hope somebody can help me here.

I am ready to buy a new A2 (17") Printer for making my screen positives.

I have read every post about printers on this forum but am still at a loose end as to what is going to yield the best results. A lot of the posts about printers are also a bit outdated now and most of the new models im looking at havent got much information on them in terms of use for transparant film opaque blacks etc.

There are a few printers in my price range which I have been looking at:

Budget: around 1,600USD/1,000GPB

Hp Designjet 111

Epson 3880

Canon IP510

Would any body be able to comment on these printers or present an alternative 17" printer which would be a good option with my budget?

We use epsons. 1400 and 4880. Parts, inks, training and fixing videos abound. They produce good results. It's like "Why fight City Hall?". Roll film is better priced, and the epsons have the roll option. Plus can find the bigger ones used.
New the 4900 has rebates almost continuously.

Greatly Appreciate all the replys.

Beanie 357, how do you get on with the 4880? Do you use any special ink or RIP software to create your positives?

Which film roll media do you use? I have been looking at the Chromoline Accufast film range.

The epson 4880 is a little above my budget but I dont mind stretching if its going to be a sure bet for printing dense opaque positives.

We got ours used, in cherry shape off craigslist for 650.
We also have a dtg 4880 based neoflex.
No problems with cmyk, white in the neo is an issue.
Never needed any of our spare parts so far.
We use accurip.
We use cobra inks dye based black ink in their refillable carts in all slots.
We use a roll based inkjet filom we got from nazdar.
There are other film vendors outt there probably cheaper.

Great stuff. Ive found a Uk seller which has a 4880 going for 1400. I think this is going to be the printer for the job.

I've never used refillable cartridges. Does the 4880 take 8 cartridges? Is it just a case of buying refillable clear cartridges and filling them all with a black dye based ink? Any detail you could give on this would be amazing, pop a link in for the cobra ink you use if poss.

Thanks

Billy
