If you can have an electrician run a line from the electrical panel to where the dryer is going to be, I would go with 240v.
Let's say it has a heating element of 1800 Watts.
1800w / 110v = 16.3Amp
1800w / 240v = 7.5Amp
I am actually running a new outlet regardless. I am getting it installed in the garage. So either way I am calling the electrician.
Does it make a difference how long it runs? I was told that short runs are better under 110, and longer runs (like all day) would be better under 240...

I can't exactly articulate why but this makes no sense to me. Electric is either on or off, duration would be irrelevant. I really can't think of any reason to choose 110 over 220.
I think it mainly depends on the equipment you are using.
But most of the commercial equipments are 240v.
Then ask the electrician to run a 12/2 to your garage, or two, so you have separated receptacles for other equipments.
