Default White ink is not working at all for 4880

Hi everyone,

my problem is that after 1,5 months of no use for my TexJet 4880 printer, the white ink couldn't be printed at all. I know, I shouldn't have left it unused for such a long period of time, but we had a winter break after Christmas and here we are facing that problem...

When I turned on the prnter, I performed a Powerful Cleaning, then the printing on white garments worked fine, but printing on dark garments did nothing at all, no white ink was visible on the t-shirt after printing. I performed a head cleaning, then a powerful cleaning again, but the result was the same. I guess the white ink must have dried in somewhere in the printer, do you have any tips or ideas what can I do?

I didn't perform a nozzleckeck, but only because I didn't think it was necessary, seeing that absolutely no white ink was coming out of the printhead while printing.

But I'll do it just in case, if you think it still could be useful.

I do Nozzle checks every time before and after printing, its just a test print and doesn't use much ink (nearly nothing) but it tells you how many nozzles are stuck. I fear that yours are all stuck. Nozzle check then power clean, again and again and you see if it improves... but your situation is looking bad. Polyprint says you can "not print" for up to 30 days, I try to keep it not longer than 14 days, but make sure that the caping station is always well filled with cleaning fluid....

"30 days without maintenance" I laugh so loud everytime when I hear that statement. Even after few days (2 or 3) ink is already settling and turning into greyish-bluiesh.

Now prepare for change of ink assembly, probably the head (but it may be ok if there wasn't ink in it), don't know how about caping station (but if there was ink left in it I bet you have to change it for new).

Ink assembly should be described as a consumable part. For comparision: one of my printers (TexJET PLUS Advanced) has about 0.5 year old ink assembly. I am printing everyday (excluding weekends, so 2-3 days off) and performing 2,3 or even more cleanings in the day. For the last 1,5 month it consumed about 500 ml of white ink. Everything seemed to be perfect until Monday. One cleaning and there was only about 1/4 nozzles on one white channel. Then after 3-4 cleanings I get it to the "perfect" condition but as I was printing at 80% of white now I need to set it for 90% to achieve same results. I am aware that after week or month I will need to change ink aseembly. Have done it several times before.

DTG printing is a nightmare, doesn't matter what brand of printer/ink you are using.

Yes I know, you are right. It could be a nightmare. :/

I already contacted the maintenance, but until he gets back to me, I wanted to know your opinion as well.

You can do it all yourself. Technician will not do anything more than changing parts for new. He can try to unclog them, but it's simply not possible. Once clogged head/ink supply/caping station is just a piece of junk.

I've had my Texjet plus for just over 3 years and I've finally had enough and I'm getting rid of it. If I had bought a brand new car and had all the problems I've had with this machine, I'd be taking it back to the dealer. DTG machines are a waste of good money, what with the price of white ink that ends up in the maintenance tank and then down the drain! The company who make that ink must be laughing all the way to the bank. Sorry about the rant but I can't be the only person who feels like this. I intend to keep printing, just not with DTG.
