Default Emulsion Poorly Spreading

Hi, I have recently started screen printing, and have been having trouble. I have the Speedball / Daizo photo emulsion kit, a Speedball screen, squeegee, fan, dark room, exposure light, etc. The problem is, when I pour the emulsion (mixed with watered sensitizer) onto the top of the screen and try to pull it down the screen with the squeegee, it spreads very short then abruptly stops spreading, no matter how hard I try to spread it. However, if I try flip the screen over and spread it on the back side as well as spreading it sideways, it is able to spread slightly more. I am very surprised that nobody else is having this issue (that I have heard). Everything else about the screen printing process is working fine, except this, and also removing the emulsion. If anyone knows a solution other than using a scoop coater and pre-sensitised emulsion please let me know.

Thank you.

I never heard tell of what you are doing. Why would't you use a scoop coater with whatever emulsion you are using ?

I've been screenprinting for over 30 years and also have never heard anything close to what you are talking about. What George said; Why don't you start with putting the emulsion in the scoop coater and then coating?

you're probably not using enough emulsion. I remember the first screen I coated, I just put a very small amount of emulsion and pulled it down with the red plastic spreader and it only reached half way down the screen. It's much better to put a big blob of it on and then remove it. I used the red "squeegee" for a while, and then bought a scoop coater, which was a total game changer. There are lots of videos online on how to best use them.
