Default copycat website

Good day, first time poster frequent lurker. I've started a website (of course no traffic) and a copycat website with a different url is poaching my content. I've hot linked my images so when using the impostors url you can't see my images. The problem is when you do an images search on google the impostor is able to use my images to direct traffic to there site. Also when using google search for my site the impostor pops up first in the organic results followed by me. Any ideas on how i can get rid of said impostor so when my images pop up on an image search they link to my site.

Thanks for any help...

Technically you can report the site to Google, but that takes time and doesn't always work.

Focus on your site first and foremost. Use tools.pingdom.com to see if your site is slow -- if so, fix it. Fast sites do better on search rankings. Create quality content, and Google will penalize the other guy and amplify you in the results.

Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools (it's free) and monitor your traffic.

Many sites have a "contact us" on the homepage. Contact them there, give them the info you gave us & threaten legal action against them. Perhaps that will be enough.

I had that happen with my soap and bath shop. We make these cute bath bombs shaped like ice cream cones (nobody else has the same mold, or makes any that look even similar). I was searching for our products to check how well they were coming up in search engines and I found another site using pics of our ice cream cones. I mean, they were literally MY pictures. They weren't generic pics, they were absolutely mine. I contacted them and they were rude telling me that they were their pictures and that they never wanted to hear from me again (I suppose not). Ten seconds later my pictures were off of their site. I think if you call them out on it, that will be enough to scare them off. Good luck,

Judy

I could buy one of you cones and very easily make a mold from yours. So this may have been in the works.

If they are loading the images from your site, you could copy and rename those images for your site. Keep the names of the files they are stealing but with new images. You can get as nasty as you want. An image that says ' I stole this photo, what will I do with your credit card' or get real nasty and use some pornography. Either way their visitors won't like what the see.

First - WATERMARK your images with your website. Make it so it can't be cropped out.

Second - Contact the web hosting company that hosts the site. Inform them of the copyright theft.

Third - Contact the website owners and inform them of their illegal copyright infringement and that this once and only once you will give them a chance to remove them. After that legal action will insue. Include a copy of the Copyright Infringement Penalties in it.

Fourth - If there is comment ability on the products go and leave post asking why they are stealing your images and products as their own.

Fifth - Make it a hassle to steal your images etc by disabling right click/save. Put them in a javascript or other programming script that makes it difficult to steal them. Make them work harder to get them. Setup your website or see if your hoster can setup rules to keep linkbacks from happening. WATERMARK your images.

Good Luck
