Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Hey, guys. I'm afraid I haven't been able to finish my r1800 build. I have a bad capping station and had to order a new one. Plus I jammed my right thumb yesterday and I wont' be able to work for a...

Rudy,

If you want me to experiment with some files for the 1800, I'll be happy to do it tomorrow.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Nop, I have an 1100. I just got my Ciss for my 1800 today, so I'm just finishing my build and I'll start experimenting with GTP tomorrow.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

360 moves the platen too violently, so it generates terrible banding issues. Also the amount of ink deposited is too little, that's why it is used only in draft mode. You could make the 360 smoother...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

I experienced the same. It does make the print much slower. I think this option is used to reduce the amount of travel the PF moves per pass. I think this is probably used to reduce banding on the...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Thanks Bob. The results are very good, nothing like what I've experienced using composite. I'm gonna run some more tests on the composite with a r1800 this time, to see if I get the same results.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Has anyone been able to print a photographic image using the composite option? Here is another one I printed using composite in guten and the original epson carts.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Actually 4 times longer. 1 is the standard. Setting it to 1 would be the same as not including the parameter.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Bob, what I found out is that the changes to the xml are actually taken into account by the program. The thing is that what the "verticalPasses" parameter does, is to divide the feed steps. For...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I always tested 1440 in the underbase and 720 in colors. :D Also I always used my t-jet 2 for testing. I haven't compared in any other print engine yet.

But to be...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

If you compare it to the epson driver the answer could be as simple as, it is using a higher density and a heavier drop size. Of course I'm not entirely sure of this. But what is sure is that the...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

720 DPI (720x720). Using the highest density from the "adjust output" options.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

From what I understand every printer has some predefined resolutions to work with. always in multiples 360,720,1440, etc. I guess that the resolution you select defines the ammount of time it takes...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Happy birthday Bob!:D

I found that using the "quality enhancement" option set to 2 actually works, but it does not make the print head pass twice over the same area and then move the PF. What it...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Sorry guys, I had the wrong settings in Gutenprint for the color layer: A 10x12 image takes 2.5 minutes at 720x720. So 2 passes takes about 5 minutes. Which would equal to print times in EK.

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Yes, it is an Epson on steriods! This thing should be illegal! :D

So, here are some more pictures of testing CMYK vs composite. In the white T picture I increased the magenta a little bit. As you...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Not yet. But I will try next.

I had replaced Black on my 1100 to white. However after seeing the results of composite, I switched back, leaving a CMYK+W. It turns out, the current EK for the...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Bob, I have tried your modified version. Unfortunately it does not work so far. It seems that changes to the "vertical passes" in the XML are not taken into account. So far I've had better results...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

If you are printing solid colors, it is not that big of an issue, because in EK you can actually define your own black (to your liking) as a mixture of your CMY channels. However when printing...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Bob I think you got me wrong on that one. Gutenprint and EK both print exactly the same using composite.

The prints on the left side of each picture is gutenprint CMYK. In the GL picture it is...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Yes the text is 100% black.

I was thinking, if it was possible to achieve the same quality with composite as with CMYK, then why would manufacturers would bother with creating a set of 4 inks...

Re: New Gimp White Underbase with 3 Color Composite Printing

Correct

1100

Both inks look very similar. This is Dupont.

I haven't touched the magenta yet. This is Composite as default configured.
