I just took rough course sand paper and etched my rod... I have rubber I could put on them but I didn't see the need.

The platen is 12 3/4 X 19 inches... I drilled 1 inch holes on the bottom and side... I'm guessing two pounds now.

MC,

Haven't weighed it... It's slightly heavier than I would like... I'm guessing around three pounds. I'm probably going to drill holes on the side and bottom to get the weight down further. ...

Just thought I would post an update... Here's my platen made of PVC.... Should have the CIS and everything in place this weekend... Video should follow.

Dragonknight,

I believe the motor is a two pole step motor... You could test with it and see if you could send it a small voltage (I believe its 3v) and move it in reverse by reversing the leads...

This model is just using the stock step motor... There are no custom electronics. It will print forward and one would have to move the platen back by hand. I'm guessing your thinking of printing on...
