Default New and Re-Meshed Aluminum Screens

OK - I'm frustrated. We use mainly 155 or 160 mesh 20x24 Aluminum screens in our print shop. For a few years I was using GM Graphics GM Graphics Supply – Just another WordPress site for our supplier. They are reasonably priced and I would often buy at a DAX show (which they apparently no longer show at) and get a show special. I've also had screens re-meshed there. Two reasons I'm not using them now: 1) screen material is rougher than from other sources (scoop coater sounds like it's running over ridges when coating with emulsion). 2) They cut their mesh at 90 degrees, leaving a sharp edge of screen to the outside, which catches on everything, including the washout booth, and pulls the screen material loose. I can't tell you how many aluminum non-retensionable screens I have TAPED to keep the mesh from peeling!!!

I just got 12 screens re-meshed at One Stop One Stop - America's Best Supplier with the same result. When I called today to complain I was told they are stopping their re-mesh service in about 2 weeks. I said that didn't surprise me with the product I got back.

So my question: Do you use aluminum screens? Are the edges cut at about a 45 degree angle on the outside (along the curve of the screen edge) or at 90 degrees, leaving a sharp edge to catch on things? If you have found a supplier that leaves a smooth edge, WHO IS IT?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

We have retensionable frames so I can't say for sure but I have seen Pocono Screen Supply at some shows and their screens looked pretty good to me. Maybe you could send a couple to them to get remeshed and see what you think.

I buy from GoldUp USA. The edges seem to be mitered, as you desire--no mesh sticking out at the edges of the frame. Tension is a bit better than from others I have tried. Prices are good. They offer two pricing schemes: 1) "Free" Shipping, but higher price. 2) Lower price, you pay shipping. They are on the west coast, and so am I, so #2 works out cheaper for me. Given your location, perhaps #1 would be cheaper. Try it both ways in the cart and see how it sorts out.

Thanks. Interestingly, I just came across this company today while viewing other posts on remeshing on this forum. They seem to be reasonably priced, but it's the quality you can't determine on a web page. Thanks for your input. I'll have to try them.
