Default Success! But why do I get printing into the metal frame

I have successfully done my first print. I did a test print without any pretreatment or heat press. My position was that I was unsure if the print head was blocked. I went ahead and managed to get a dullish in colour but defined print. However on my second print the printer printed in the metal frame. So outside of the printing oaramenters. What would cause this? Also is it healthy to assume the full print is due to no pretreatment and heat seal? Or maybe it could be the ink is stale? Any guidance appreciated
