Default R-Jet Owners - What shirts do you print on?

Hi Club Resolute

After having a nightmare recently with Gildan Ultra's and Heavy Cotton T-shirts i have carried out some tests on other shirts and thought i'd give you my opinion/result.

Fruit of the Loom Screen Stars - Poor Quality T-shirt but prints superbly.

SG15 & SG18 - Good Quality T-shirt and Great Print Quality

B&C 190 - Good all round T-shirt but a little more expensive than the others

Gildan Premium - Nice Soft T-shirt with a Great Surface to Print On

Gildan Ultra Cotton - Good Shirt but suffers with poor final print quality

Gildan Sofstyle - Great T-shirt but i suffered with Fibres sticking through the colour layer

What shirts are you guys printing on?

Regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
Great information. We only use the B&C range in the showroom but I can confirm they would be my choice if I were printing in a production environment. Worth the extra few pence !

regards

Colin

Hey Steve.

We use the Gildan Premiums, or Continental N03, former being fractionally better to print on, but the latter a better all round shirt.

The Ultras and Heavy's are to wide a weave for DTG we find..

Hi Steve

We use a lot of different brands due to customer choice but always recommend Gildan Premiums if anyone
asks.

B&C 190 is a really nice shirt too but a little more expensive.

Dont think you can go wrong with the Gildan Premium though

Cheers,

Paul.

Default Re: R-Jet Owners - What shirts do you print on?

ahh just what i needed. been using gildan ultra soft 64000 from elms... they have a nice feel but the colours arent giving me the results i would like. the white shirts appear a little washed out also. i always assumed ringspun shirts were the answer for good dtg results...

which white shirts are people using as i have also printed lots of fruit of the loom premiums which do have a nice white to them but feel like potato sacks. hardly a fashion choice.
the 64000 gildans have a better feel and look to them i think

b&c have only had a couple of these but as mentioned a little expensive to be competitive on certain marketplaces ...

i will have a try of the gildan premiums and the sg15,18 shirts

perhaps it would be helpful if people could show some photos of the results on these mentioned shirts.

perhaps it would be nice if we all agree on a certain image to print then show with photos / rip settings etc ... ?

just an idea

Hey guys!

I'm a little concerned that no one has mentioned the Gildan SoftStyles as this is what we've switched to predominantly now.

Is there anything in particular that you guys don't like about them and therefore steer well clear??

Thanks!

Hi Vijai,

I have used Gildan Softstyle in the past but i suffered with fibrillation? problems. Where the little fibres pop up through the print and leave little flecks of the underbase showing through the colour layer.

The Gildan Premiums are very similar to touch to the softstyle however i believe the construction is different which stops the issues with the fibres popping up.

Ah I see! Well we're currently using the R-Jet Midi so we have no under base, so I guess the issue may not be as prevalent. Will definitely take this into consideration when we do decide to step it up to the next level! Thanks

hi steve, which shirts did you go with in the end?

i use gildan 64000 soft style but to be fair the print quality is a bit faded. the shirts feel nice and soft but im wondering if to go with something else. occassionally i use fruit of the loom as can get them locally if stuck but they feel like potato sacks ...

love to know what you are using mate?

thanks

gareth

Hi Gareth,

I hope all is well with the business and printer.

I have whittled my list down to 3 shirts that i am happy to use.

1st choice - Gildan Premium, gives a superb finish and is the only Gildan shirt i will use.
2nd Choice - SG15/SG18, Great value shirt with a smooth surface. Has a Lady Fit in the same style/colours
3rd Choice - B&C Exact 180, A little bit more expensive than the 2 above but still a fantastic shirt to use. Again the B&C range has a ladies range.

Every brand of shirt i have tested required different amounts of pre-treatment and also a slight alteration on the print settings. Mainly the Underbase. Some shirts need very little underbase whereas others seem to need a good soaking (not literally)

If you need any more info mate feel free to give me a shout. Im by no means an expert but im more than happy to help where possible

Be Lucky

Default Re: R-Jet Owners - What shirts do you print on?

Some shirts maybe more expensive but as Steve said a good shirt needs less white ink (underbase) and that means its cheaper on the White ink.
The differences I have seen between a good shirt and a bad shirt can be considerable in the amount of white ink used, so it may be cheaper for the total cost to spend more on a good shirt, not to mention it gives you a considerably better final product.

There are some T-shirts we get from a company in Denmark, which are the best I have ever found for DTG. Its just unfortunate they are very expensive, so not really commercially viable.

But its always worth running some costs to see if using a cheap shirt really does save you money as on black shirts I think you will find that the white ink costs out way the shirt costs.

Best regards

-David
