There are a lot of good printers available BUT for sublimation...Epson is the choice by far because of the pezzo print heads that work best...that is why you dont see a lot of folks doing this with other printers...I am not even sure if there are others that have dyesub ink available.

Charles: a lot of Epson printers can be used..C88+ if you can find them, C120, 1400 and 1800, 3000/4000 series. If you don't need the wide format..the C120 is a good printer...and faster..
Hi folks, I want to buy a printer ASAP and I would be happy to give one of the Epsons a try. The 1400 is talked about a lot, but is it the best choice for a newbie? I discount the 1800 cos it has too many cartridges, but what about the others? The C120 is good says Charles everyone agreed? I take it I won't have to screw with the software?

And the prices for sublimation ink being what they are I am happy to use the printer for T's only. I got a Canon for other stuff.

Would appreciate any input.

you should read through this whole thread.. just about every question you asked is answered in here..

I decided NOT to go with the 1400 and get a C120 OR the C88.. I dont need that large of format.

There is a print power driver that i am still a little fuzzy on the details, but since it is for PC only, i cant have it anyways

One thing to add about the C120 vs the 1400. Both are good..both work well with sublimation. The advantage of the 1400 is the wide format - it does cost more..you can find it on sale for about 200 USD. The cost of ink is just a bit higher. The 1400 has 6 ink carts but the C120 has 5...just one less. The C120 has two black carts so if you can spring for the extra $, the operation of the 1400 is minimally higher

Hi Lin, I welcome your comment but was hoping for some more knowledgable input so I could make a positive purchase decision. Charles has given the 1400 a good wrap, but Master has not. And for T's is the 1400 really the best? With several Epson models to choose from why that one? Will it do more before it fails? Is it simple to start, out of the box? Do I need to clean the head daily/weekly? Do I need to replace the chip in the cart? Can I get 900 A4 prints for T's out of it? Knowing that gives me a cost per print, ink plus life of printer. I want some clarification.

Or put it this way. People could name the best 3 things about a 1400. And the 3 worst things! That would help!
