Hey Team! I just finished programming the Gutenprint definition files for the 1100 and 1400 to allow printing a white under-base with 3 color composite. It has been altered to print four passes of each color. This should lay down a sufficient amount of ink to make a good print. This is experimental and no warranties are explicit or implied. I don't believe it can cause any harm to your printer. Give it a try and see if it fits your needs.
On the 1100 replace both black with white.
On the 1400 replace the black, light cyan and light magenta with white.
For 3 color composite and 4 white carts on the R1800 replace the matt black, red, blue and optimizer with white.
The original black is still intact so you can print CYMK as well...
Headcount, Is anyone Alpha testing GutenRIP on the 1400 and 1800? The WF1100 seems to be doing a descent job. I could use some feedback on the 1400 and 1800.... If you own one of these DTGs I would appreciate any help.
Right then...
If I see that bloody transformer any more I'll tell the decepticons where it is....
As I said, cleaned restocked, removed and re-install from the Wiki.
White has improved this is 2 passes. (just tried uploading and only managed one picture so far).
...Continued. White improved on two passes but colour not improved.
I printed 3 passes with colour without much success. I increased the density of the cyan without any noticable improvement. I stuck a piece of coloured paper over the print to see what was happening and cyan appears VERY faint and yellow and red appear faint. I then used a different program to print the file again to check the printer and this is what I got. I go back to my theory that the cyan channel is not printing or printing with white alongside.
BTW the bottom 'other' print was done in one pass.
I have other photos but I'm still struggling to upload hence the two posts.
qbob, That is very helpful... The bottom print was printed with another program is that correct? What mode were you printing 3 color composite or CYMK for the top image? Could you try printing color on top of a black shirt. That will tell us if white is printing with the cyan as you suggested.
looks like ya head is blocked to me mate i have a r1800 and get gd results i have no ink atm waiting to get some when i get some cash lol
here are some photos i found using gutenprint i bilieve 720 but not sure and this was the earlie version of gutenprint so no quality enhancment on it only white tshirts but vibarante colours hope this helps anyone the way bob has ajusted gutenprint xml is the way i done it to print white sorry no pics

also with the r1800 its pointless using rgb as there is that over cartridge there so not using it is a waste you will get a better black by using black obviously
also if you have to use rgb are you converting it to rgb format so the colour correction is ok overwise blue is a horrible colour for printing its a ***** when i do artwork i always use cmyk and try to keep my colours 100% cmyk or a mix so my printer noes what to do with the colours gutenprint is great at this we need it totaly optimised for dtgs tho so we can put down more ink on one pass
None have volunteered. I guess it's just you and I chum... I'm working on a plugin for Gimp. This should be a good exercise in understanding the mechanisms needed. The biggest problem is that Gimp and Gutenprint were written for 'nix based systems. A full conversion means compiling CUPS, Gimp and Gutenprint... Not fun.
Yes, I agree that perhaps we should just remove the 3 composite option for the 1400 and up... I'll give it another look over soon. I'm tied up till Thursday.
i do c# but not at a high standard lol i wouldnt even no where to start with a rip lol we could do with a totaly new rip and not even using gutenprint lol
I have a history with C, C++ and am working on C#... Even still, porting 'nix apps to Winders isn't going to be fun. Writing a RIP from scratch... Well that's something to work on in the long run... A plugin should be a good introduction. I plan on writing the plugin in C# using a wrapper.
Agreed, that does look jacked up... Only thing is it printed for me using standard ink. Is this the newest download? What version of GutenRIP is he using?
were on version 0.0.5 atm i have looked at the xml all looks gd can you do a print to your dtg conversion straight from gimp and see what happeneds????
Rob, He's getting ink out of every print but with the 1400 GutenRIP... I don't quite understand it. Can anyone else verify this is case. I was able to print with the 1400 GutenRIP in 3 color composite mode just fine (Using standard Epson Inks). I don't quite understand his issue unless he is using an older copy of GutenRIP...
I use my 1400 for printing separations so I won't be building a 1400 DTG. I will only stay with the 1100 as an entry level DTG from now on.
QBob, did you download and install the latest version of GutenRIP?
