I don't think having an off site shop will automatically increase sales, but it does give you the potential for better branding of your products.

Since many of the top shops (on both spreadshirt and cafepress) have offsite shops, it certainly couldn't hurt.

Either way, you'll still have to advertise your store.

I think that's one thing that folks with offsite shops have in common is that they really grasp the marketing/advertising side of things, so they try to treat their stores like a business.

Many already have established sites, so they are just "plugging in products" that appeal to their existing visitors.
