Yeah, flatten merges all layers into one, but then you no longer have the option of altering a layer so, remember to save any important documents BEFORE flattening them as the History is not saved along with the document.

a flattened image merely puts all layers into one background layer

it saves file size

there should be some free/cheap courses at udemy to help you start

I am new to AI and I am trying to learn. Why would I want to flatten an image? I've watched some videos where they flatten the image but don't explain why. I don't understand what exactly is happening when it gets flattened.
