The distance from the light to the surface of the screen is typically said to be the diagonal dimension of the screen you are using.

It obviously needs to be on the same side of the screen as the film positive, but it doesn't matter other than that. I think most exposure setups, pro and otherwise, have the film on the shirt side for ease of use.

That would depend on the brand of emulsion you use. Since there are so many different brands of emulsion the only sure fire way to no this is to do what is called a step wedge test. Search "step wedge test" on this forum and you will find the directions on how to complete one. Once completed you will no what YOUR exposure time is with your set up.

It really depends on the type of light you have but let's just say you have a 500watt halogen with the UV cover removed..I have seen the height anywhere from 18" to 21".

This distance of course is measured from the edge of the light to the top of the glass sitting on top of the film and screen. (If that makes sense)

I'm looking to build a exspoure unit I've seen some good one on here. I was just wondering
what is the height from the screen to the light
when your going above ?
