Re: What do I do? Please help!

as an alternative suggestion to screen print.

We started off by just purchasing a heat press machine and purchasing htv designs pre-cut or pre printed and pressed them on ourselves.

We were looking at screen printing but just fell in love with HTV.

Re: What do I do? Please help!

Print-on-demand/Drop Shipping would probably be a better option when launching a new t-shirt/apparel company. It's quite an investment in equipment, time and space just to run even a small screenprinting setup.

Message me if you need some guidance.

Re: What do I do? Please help!

Hey Rebecca,

DIY always sounds like the 'better option' but rarely is unless you've got the experience in the trade.

We've sold over 100k tees in the last few years and multiple times have looked at bringing our printing in house but its never worked out to be a better approach.

Whilst the cost per printed tee might be a bit better the other overheads and stress of ensuring equipment is always working etc makes it 'not so nice'.

If you're just starting out its best to find a contract printer to do the work for you, down the track it might be viable to DIY but starting out the learning curve is too much.

Re: What do I do? Please help!

For those coming to this thread in the future:
In the last few weeks I've bought and sold carousels on Gumtree - that's where basic equipment like carousels, screens, squeegees and so on is usually found. I've not often seen exposure units or washout booths, except as part of sales where people are eitehr selling their business or all the equipment they used to run the business.

Good inkjet printers can be found, but not advertised as for screen printing but rather office surplus.

Gilrow Engineering is a screen printing equipment manufacturer based in Deshon Street, Woolloongabba
Gilrow Engineering

Gabba Screen Printing Supplies is based in Wellington Road, East Brisbane

Southside Screen Printing Supplies is based in Cairns Street, Loganholme
Australian Screen Printing Supplies

Both Gabba and Southside are very helpful and knowledgeable. I don't know any northside, sorry.

Re: What do I do? Please help!

The answer to those questions is basically no. I figured if I was going to do this properly I'd be happy to make the investment but I'm probably barking up the wrong tree.

Maybe I should change my general question to - where should I go to get my screen printing done for me? I'll have another look into it. I'm hoping to use eco friendly printing and sweatshop free shirts so the search has been difficult.

Thank you very much for the advice.

Re: What do I do? Please help!

Check ebay and gumtree for used equipment.

But you need to go for screen printing training classes before you buy a single piece of equipment. You may find that screen printing is not for you after all. The glamorous part of screen printing shown on youtube videos (of the actual printing) is just 1 small part of the screen printing process. Some questions to ponder:

1. Do you know how to design in illustrator and photoshop?
2. Do you have printer which can output dark enough film for blocking uv light?
3. Do you have an exposure unit to expose the stencil?
4. If you plan to print on coloured material you need to print flash print, so you need a flash dryer.
5. How do you plan to cure the t-shirts? You need to invest in a dryer for commercial production. Ironing by hand gets really boring after a while. You have better things to do, trust me.

Re: What do I do? Please help!

Hi there everyone,

I'm very interested in getting into screen printing, mainly because my main goal is to launch a niche-specific apparel company and I see DIY as a great way to save a heap of money and perhaps earn a little on the side to support my business.

My issue is, I have no idea where to get equipment in Brisbane, Australia?

I've been looking for something like this:
but I'm open to anything.

I'm happy to pay for shipping, but international shipping for this kind of weight is just outrageous. I can't find anything second hand in the area either.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Or is anyone selling their equipment that you know of?

Thank you so much in advance,
