Could any one shed light on why the Kornit purges white ink while printing on white t-shirts?
We are currently printing on whites and loose about half a litre of white in.

I can't speak in particular with the Kornit dtg printers, but all the other dtg printers will do exactly the same thing. In fact, all printers that use a piezo print head do the same thing. The piezo print heads need to be fired periodically to make sure that they do not clog or overheat from what I am told. So the firmware in the printers has them go over and spit ink periodically in the maintenance station area. The same exact thing happens with dye sub, photo and film positive printers.

Hope this helps clarifies things.

The white ink purges during CMYK only prints in order to protect the white print heads when they are not being used. If all purging stops for an extended period of time, the heads could dry out and damage the nozzles within the print head. If you plan on printing on light garments for a long period of time, you have the option of flushing the white heads and introducing a preservation fluid in them to protect the nozzles while they aren't being used.

If you lost a half of a liter you printed about 1500 white shirts - right. A half liter is 3.5 bottles. How many shirts???? Is your machine weeping the ink or purging. THere is a huge difference. You need to say how many shirts. Do you have a good mini purge? What does it look like. Are you continually purging your CMYK during printing because of streaks? We all need more info.

Kornittech gave you the answer as to why the purge occurs.
