Question 3G Jet Opaque Issue After 1st Wash

Hi all, I just started doing shirts and have been testing a few different settings. I have been pressing onto poly shirts at 290 for 20 seconds with an additional 10 sec press. (When I do it at a higher temperature or for longer, it seems to burn the transfer paper and turns it brown.) I pre-press the shirts before and do a cold peel followed by a light stretching. After my first wash (inside out on warm), I found an issue on the forehead. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you are describing the directions for JPSS with the wrong temp and time. 3G recommends about 350F at 30sec firm pressure. don't stretch. wait 24 hours before washing. Are you printing with dye based inks or pigment. pigment holds up way better in the wash. Have you tested your press temp to see if your temp gauge is accurate. sounds like it may be hotter than the gauge says. Save the instructions that come with the products and hang them on the wall by the press.

Hi Printor, Thanks so much for your response. Here is what happened when I followed the directions that came with the transfer paper. The brownest one is the first one that I tried, and that one was at 350F at 30 sec. As I kept lowering the heat settings and the time, it eventually stayed white. (The last one was the bottom right, I think.) I'm afraid to turn up the heat because it seems like it's burning the paper.

I use a Teflon sheet instead of paper so I don't know how many times you should be able to reuse 1 sheet. A lot of TSFers prefer paper. My main concern is the real temp of the press compared to your gauge. and the fact that you were stretching it. 3G really has no stretch to it when it cooled down. Did you wait 24hours to wash test it?

Hello! I recently printed a colored artwork on a black shirt using the 3G Jet Opaque heat transfer paper. I used sawgrass SG400 printer with Sublijet HD inks. The dark brown to almost black color in the artwork turned lighter brown. I followed the before washing instructions but it seems like the colors faded after washing. Any advise? Please let me know. Thanks!

Yeah....you're using a dye sublimation printer with dye sublimation inks on a heat transfer paper.

Try using a pigment ink printer like an Epson to print the 3G heat transfer paper.
