Default Galaxy heat press??

Hi Guys,

Im looking to purchase a heat press this weekend, haven't got a shed load of cash to spend on one, around £500, but trying to steer away from the cheap crappy eBay ones

Have seen a few galaxy ones about are these decent enough presses? or can someone recommend one decent for my budget?

Thanks in advance

The "TransPro Select Semi Auto 16 X 20 Heat Press'

from ProWorld should do just fine for your budget of $650. You can find them in the vendors listed on the left.

Depending on your 'product' and available space, you may want to consider a swing arm. However, this will impact your budget.

I am unfamiliar with Galaxy. However, be fully aware your support will originate in China. The most common report of those using some China manufactured presses is the "lights" go out in 5 months. If your business can survive getting a replacement should you experience the same outcome, then the business model of low cost China manufactured presses will work.
If you are NOT buying direct, then the distributor may have a 'back up' plan to keep you in production.

I have seen the Martin Butler vids on the galaxy press, and sadly its hard to judge as to me being as he was sent and given the press, his views could be bias towards it. Had he brought the press with his own money, the outcome may of been different.

Yes you are right he was sent one to try out, i have done a bit more due diligence though. The presses are available in the US and UK and do come with warranties which should say something, look if I could afford the likes of a fusion I would go for it they are the bench mark unfortunately where I live they are unavailable meaning on top of the 2 grand cost I would have to pay for shipping adding quite a large chunk and on top of that I would not get the support . I hope whatever you decide turns out to be the best for you.

Good luck
Ryan

Galaxy is at the better end of unbranded/semi-branded chinese imports. Everything would depend on how good the UK importer is.

The Stahls Maxx is a very good press, with a lifetime warrenty on the heating element.

The only downside is that Stahls Europe is based in Germany. After Brexit that could be problematic should you need to send it abroad for any warrenty repairs. A manufacturers warrenty is in addition to your consummer rights. Unlike consummer rights, which are between you and the supplier, warrenties are between you and the manufacturer. The shipping costs to Germany could outway the value of the product, limiting the value of the warrenty.

You need to find out in writting from your supplier how long they will accept responsibility for the manufacturers warrenty.

The cheaper Stahls Basic is just a Chinese product and mine was problematic soon after the 12 months warrenty was up.

38 x38cm (15 x 15") is as small as you would want for general use.The smaller ones are ok as a second press, but you will end up turning away paying work sooner or later.

Ocasionally you might wish you had a 40 x 50 ( 16 x 20"), but you can probably live with ouit it for 95% of the time. Might come in handy if you get into sublimation or inkjet transfers, but less likely to be a problem for htv use.

Unhappy Re: Galaxy heat press??

Ok.. was about to bite the bullet today and purchase the hotronix maxx, however Im now so what confused on the warranty.

Looked at 2 companies that are selling it in the uk, subli.co.uk and MDP supplies, Subli are saying that it is covered within the uk and the unit can be sent back to base (uk) and that they stock the parts in the uk.

However MDP tell me that if the unit becomes faulty that it has to be shipped back to Germany, and also that the spares have to come from Germany

So yes Pat you was right in saying that the unit may need shipping back to Germany, which would be a right pain in the bum, and costly too.

Makes me think do I save my £850 and buy a used one on eBay for £400?

The annoying thing about Stahls is that they own Target Transfers in the Uk, so there is no good reason why they could not be the UK service centre.

If you can get to Leeds buy this - it is a Pressmech. UK made, built like a tank. If anything goes wrong and you can speak to the man who made it on the telephone. Most of the guys on the UK based Dyesub forum swear by them.

If you can't get to Leeds then Nova Chrome sell them for about £850 + vat.
