I am a beginner in all aspects of designing t-shirt images. I am currently using/ learning Coreldraw 2019. I am trying to create what seems to me would be a simple distressed image with the letters punched out in the middle. I need help!! I have watched video after video on the distressing text but still can't get it to work on the image itself. Hopefully this makes since

i'm not familiar with coreldraw, but you should be able to just convert text to curves overlay a distress pattern and subtract

or you can start with a distressed font like:
hulkbusters/tioem black/alpha echo/distressed ransom note/after shok/destroy/boycott/gesso/shortcut

these are all free for commercial use

Download a mask close to desired result then use it in place of the mask in the PDF procedure in this link https://www.t-shirtforums.com/p4215953-post4.html

The sample images don't look like what you want but if you use the mask or filter that is close to your target you should be able to achieve it.
