Default What is the best equipment for a low volume business?

I have a DTG printer that I jumped into because of how simple it was. I really want to sell it and downsize. I soon found out that if I wasn't printing all the time my profit was going down the drain with just the maintence alone. I only sell about 30 shirts a month. Mostly custom but some small bulk orders. About 90% are black cotton but I would like the option of a mix blend or polyester. which way should I go? Heat Transfers or Sublimation? I really like the no weeding. Would love any suggestions. Trying not to make another huge costly mistake.

I would suggest going with sublimation transfers.

Since you are low volume and only do black shirts you will need the following:

Corel Draw and a computer
A heat press (preferably a Hotronix 16x20 but a 15" and less expensive name brand will do)
A 24" vinyl cutter (preferably a Roland or Graphtec but a US cutter will do)

That is it. You can do plastisol transfers or HTV or Rhinestones or Glitter and even banners and signs.
For one offs and small orders do HTV. Set up an account with F&M for single color screen printing.

You should probably work on getting more biz though. We were able to push about a quarter million dollars of revenue out of a $400 US Cutter over a 5 year period. It can be done.
